• Silva says England goalkeeper has learned a big lesson
• Pickford apologised on return to training on Wednesday
Jordan Pickford has been disciplined by Everton and warned about his future conduct by Marco Silva after being involved in a scuffle outside a bar in Sunderland on Sunday.
The England goalkeeper apologised to the Everton manager and to the director of football, Marcel Brands, for his part in a fracas that occurred after his fiancee, Megan Davison, had been insulted during a night out in their hometown. While the club accepts there were mitigating circumstances behind the melee – and Pickford had been given time off – Silva is unhappy the 25-year-old was in a position that resulted in Northumbria police and Everton opening investigations. Pickford has been disciplined for a breach of the Everton manager’s off-field rules and, while Silva insisted the punishment remains in-house, it is likely to have been a fine of a week’s wages.
