Peru’s first-ever slapping championships gathered dozens of fans in Lima on Saturday, after the ‘sports’ video from Russia went viral on Social media.

The participants had to meet a range of requirements, such as being older than 18 and in the weight category between 80 and 100 kilograms (between 176 and 220 lbs).

The contest was supervised by a professional referee and a medical team was on the spot to assist the contestants in case of emergency.

After a series of qualification flights, 32-year-old Venezuelan Jerry Smith triumphed in the final, obtaining a 1,000 soles ($296 / €267) prize from the referee.
