Over the last decade, many schools in the U.S. have abandoned their Native American sports mascots. Others, including the local Radnor High School, are resisting this trend and have retained their Native American mascots and nicknames (“Red Raiders”). Are these mascots and nicknames paying tribute to Native Americans or are they just another example of racist caricatures and stereotypes? What would Dr. King have thought about this?
