In the 13’ the match got going in exciting fashion when Krasnodar’s Kaio Pantaleão challenged Chelsea’s Timo Werner in the penalty area. Jorginho took the penalty shot for Chelsea, normally an automatic shot taker, fooled the keeper out of his shoes, but his shot hit the woodwork and ended up deflecting off of the keeper back into play keeping the match at 0-0 early on. After getting a lucky bounce on the penalty kick earlier in the game, Krasnodar’s keeper, Matvei Safonov, wasn’t as lucky the second time. Callum Hudson-Odoi collected the ball at the top of the box and rifled it to the keeper, Safonov was in the right place but was unable to corral the ball and it ended up deflecting right into the goal to give Chelsea the 1-0 lead in the 37’. That would be all Chelsea could muster in the first half despite dominating possession 74% to 26%.

In the second half it was more of the same dominance for Chelsea. In the second half there was some more scoring to go along with the dominance as Chelsea tacked on goals in the 76’, 79’ and 90’ by Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulišić to put this one out of reach and solidify the Matchday 2 win.
