News24 – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made big Man Utd mistake… this is what I’ve been told – expert
======================================
 In his first press conference as boss, Solskjaer revealed he had spoken to legend Sir Alex Ferguson about taking charge at Manchester United. But while the admission may have gone down well with United fans, McGarry says it would have been exactly what the owners – the Glazers – didn’t want to hear. He has been told the Glazers wanted more control of the club and sought to get exactly that when Fergie retired.**PREDICT FIVE RESULTS AND WIN £25,000 – FREE TO PLAY HERE** “In his press conference Solskjaer said he spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.  “What I’ve been told – and what I firmly believe – is that in negotiating Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, the Glazers wanted more influence in the football department than they have had because Sir Alex Ferguson ran everything. “Therefore, in conceding to allow him to choose his successor i.e. David Moyes, they in effect said ‘right, okay, we’ll allow you this gift, if you like, in choosing the successor’. “Therefore from that point forward, they tried to and have had more influence in the football department than perhaps the managers would have liked. “When Solksjaer has turned up on day one and said ‘of course I’ve spoken to the boss, he’s the most influential person in my life’ I’m thinking ‘yeah, you won’t get the job full-time mate, because you’re too tight with Sir Alex and you’ve admitted it, and even though you’ve got a couple of nice results, that’s not going to happen’. “I believe that Solksjaer made a mistake in admitting that. Whether that gains him credibility with the Manchester United fans and anyone else, that’s fine, but it’s not going to get him credibility with Avram Glazer, who was in the directors’ box at Old Trafford for the win over Huddersfield. “They want to – and feel they should – have more control.” Solksjaer has won his first three games as caretaker boss but Mauricio Pochettino is the man United chiefs want to take the club to the next level. “With regards to Solskjaer going forward, there’s definitely an argument to make that he will have to make a choice whether he continues to take advice and counsel from Sir Alex Ferguson, or whether he’s his own man, and says to Ed Woodward and the Glazers, ‘okay, let’s work out how this is going to go forward’,” McGarry added. “It’s an interesting one for the next four or five months in regards to how Manchester United pans out. “I still believe they want to appoint someone who is not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the manager’s position for some of the reasons I’ve just mentioned. “Also, should Solskjaer do well, it’s true that it will make it somewhat more complicated.”
