Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives for first day of Man Utd training as Red Devils boss. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has arrived for his first day on the job at Manchester United.

The Norwegian will take training today ahead of Saturday’s trip to former club Cardiff City.

Solskjaer was appointed interim United manager on Wednesday following the sacking of Jose Mourinho 24 hours earlier.

The self-styled Special One was given his marching orders in a face-to-face meeting with Ed Woodward following the Red Devils’ humbling at Anfield.

United’s 3-1 defeat to their fiercest rivals left them 19 points behind table-toppers Liverpool and 11 points off the top-four pace.

Solskjaer has now been tasked with reversing United’s fortunes – starting with the weekend’s trip South Wales.

The baby-faced assassin was appointed Cardiff boss in January 2014 but failed to save the Bluebirds from relegation to the Championship.

He was axed in September of the same year after a poor start to the subsequent season in the second tier.

Solskjaer returned to Molde 13 months later and is still officially the manager of the Norwegian side.

United have ‘borrowed’ their former striker until the end of the season when he is then scheduled to return to Molde.

And the Red Devils will be forced to fork out £8million should they wish to keep him in the Old Trafford dugout.

“In football you never know what can happen,” Solskjaer said. “We get proof of time after time. This is an opportunity I had to take. I am looking forward to leading Manchester United until the summer.

“At the same time, I will follow closely what is happening here at home. We have built stone for stone and at the end of the season this year gives us hope for another good season.”
