Breaking News – Gary Neville feels Jose Mourinho is burning out as Man United boss

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville admits he feels sorry for Jose Mourinho and suggests the Manchester United manager ‘looks tired’ in the Old Trafford hot-seat. Mourinho’s early-morning press conference on Friday morning lasted just three and a half minutes as he fielded questions about his underperforming squad ahead of Newcastle United’s visit on Saturday. And former United player Neville, when quizzed on his old club’s struggles prior to Brighton vs West Ham, admitted Mourinho looks ‘fed up’ with the job as pressure continues to mount on him. ‘I watched the whole press conference and I have to say he looks fed up,’ Neville said. ‘Obviously it’s not been a pleasant few weeks but over the last few years on the television here, sometimes you see managers who have those bad results and you can see they are aware of fatigue coming into press conferences. ‘I experienced it at Valencia in those last couple of months and I think Jose Mourinho has had seven matches in the last 20 days, something like that. He does a press conference pre-match and a press conference post-match. ‘That’s 14 times he has got to sit in that room and answer those questions when his team aren’t playing well and his team aren’t getting results. ‘He just looks worn to me this morning looking at that sort of footage. He looks tired and it’s sad to see actually, not great to see.’ United are without a win in their last four games, exiting the Carabao Cup on penalties in that time, and having left the pitch to a smattering of boos against Valencia, the visit of Newcastle has become a must-win game for the Portuguese manager. Zinedine Zidane has been heavily linked with succeeding Mourinho, should he be sacked, and a defeat to Rafa Benitez’s side, who remain winless in the league, would only ramp up calls to part ways. The biggest concern for Neville is the fact that as he watched from the stands in the 0-0 draw against his old side Valencia, fans around him were left ‘bored’ by what they saw. ‘The best performance I have seen this season was the one where they got beat 3-0 by Tottenham,’ the pundit added. ‘I said it before under Louis van Gaal. Win, lose, draw, it happens in football, but never bored. I just thought the fans, the people around me at the game just looked bored. ‘They were just drained. They didn’t have any sort of excitement and that really is difficult.’
